I have used Bluehost's VPS plan more than 6 years. I recently upgraded the CentOS version from 6 to 7. If the version of CentOS is 6, you can upgrade it to version 7 with the help of Bluehost.
I got a notification email from cPanel:
Newer releases of cPanel & WHM are not compatible with your operating system. Upgrade your OS, or use the Update Preferences screen to select a Long-Term Support release for use with your OS. Starting with version 88, cPanel & WHM supports 64-bit versions of CentOS 7+, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7+, and CloudLinux® 6+ only. Please see our OS End of Life policy for more information.
I contacted Bluehost and was told that the OS needed to be upgraded.
You have to check the following details:
- All content is deleted and replaced with default files, including mail, site files, installations database, and any changes made in root.
- DNS entries are removed and recreated with default values. This removes all custom DNS Changes.
- Add-ons/parked/sub domains and their related folders and files are removed.
- All email and FTP accounts are deleted.
- The username stays the same.
- The account password stays the same.
- All other user accounts are removed from the hosting instance and will need to be recreated.
- Sudo access will need to be reconfigured.
- Any SSL certificates installed will be removed. (You would need to backup)
- All cPanel backups on this hosting instance will be deleted.
- This will take a minimum of 24 hours to complete.
- Backups would be removed from the hosting account. Please download any files before we start the re-image
I downloaded cPanel backup and then requested the OS upgrade. It took about 2 days to finish the upgrade process.
If you sign up for Bluehost webhosting service by clicking on this referral link, I will get some commission. However, I do not recommend a specific web-hosting service just for commission; I have been using Bluehost, Siteground and other webhosting services for years. Most especially, you will be able to use Bluehost's web hosting service starting from as low as USD2.75/month (with 1USD off per month).
